KAREN
HOVIS
Glass and the beautiful dance that is created when light touches it has always mesmerized
Karen Hovis. Hovis began her journey with glass fusing in 2005 in Martin County, Stuart,
Florida.
In 2016, retired from the insurance world Hovis now has more TIME TO FUSE and follow her
passion. Karen loves working with glass in all forms and is constantly trying new techniques
and experimenting with combinations of glass with other minerals and elements. Her goal is
always to create unique pieces and be asked “how did you do that?”.
Numerous courses and years of study, trial and error have taken place in Florida, Georgia and
North Carolina. Karen has had the pleasure of learning from many well-established glass artists
including Randy Wardell and Petra Kaiser. In 2019, Hovis was chosen as an artisan on the Blue
Ridge Craft Trails. The Blue Ridge Craft Trails, is an online website to promote craft, craft
artists, and cultural tourism in 25 western North Carolina counties. She is honored to have been
chosen for this initiative. Some of her work has been featured in WNC Magazine July/August
2019 edition.
