Mandalas are created for the healing of living beings and the environment. They are also created as a meditation tool to become one with the universe. This week, the monk artists will create a colorful mandala sand painting as a meditative practice on world healing and as a symbol for the impermanence of life. Join us for the opening ceremony and reception to be a part of the beginning stages, including chanting, music, and mantra recitation and enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.

Mandala Sand Painting & Closing Ceremony
Saturday
November 30
12pm - 2pm
The monks conclude their creation of the Mandala with its consecration. During the closing ceremony the monks will dismantle the mandala, sweeping up the colored sands to symbolize the impermanence of all that exists. Half of the sand will be distributed to the audience as blessings for personal health and healing. The remaining sand is carried in a procession by the monks, accompanied by guests, to a flowing body of water. Here the sand is ceremonially poured into the water, thus dispersing the healing energies of the mandala throughout the world.
